## What the self-check asks about

Eight questions, each answered from “not at all” to “a lot”, about the days before your period.

- 1 On edge In the days before your period, how much do small things make you snap or leave you on edge?
- 2 Anxious How much does anxiety, or a sense of dread, turn up that week?
- 3 Low How often are you low or tearful, or unable to enjoy things you usually like?
- 4 Overwhelmed Does an ordinary day start to feel like too much, like the load got heavier on its own?
- 5 Foggy How much does your focus scatter, with your attention pulled toward the worst case or the self critical?
- 6 The people close to you How much does it spill onto the people close to you, sharper words, more distance, more friction?
- 7 Getting things done How much does it get in the way of work, study, or what you need to get done?
- 8 Taken together Overall, how much does the week before your period take from you?

## What your result means

Score 0 to 6

### Mild

You notice the shift, but it mostly stays in the background.

Score 7 to 15

### Noticeable

It changes how a few days each cycle feel, at home or at work.

Score 16 to 24

### High impact

It takes a lot from you every cycle, and support can help a lot.

## Questions about the self-check

Can this quiz tell me if I have PMDD?

+

No. It shows how much the week before your period is affecting you right now. PMDD is diagnosed by a doctor, usually after you track your symptoms every day for two cycles. If your result is high, that tracking is a good next step.

What is the self-check based on?

+

The questions follow the symptoms doctors ask about for PMS and PMDD, loosely modelled on the Premenstrual Symptoms Screening Tool: mood, anxiety, focus, the people close to you and getting things done.

How often should I take it?

+

Once in the week before your period, and again in the week after. Comparing the two shows how much of what you feel follows your cycle.

When should I talk to a doctor?

+

If the week before your period gets in the way of work or relationships most months, or brings deep hopelessness or thoughts of hurting yourself. PMS and PMDD are treatable, and a doctor can help you find what works.
